'91 Montero intermittently stalls PLEASE HELP
Hi, this is my first post. Hope it is in the right area. I recently purchased a 1991 Montero LS 4x4 5 speed. It starts strong and runs well. I've noticed that the transmission is difficult to engage when the truck is cold (it just wont go into gear sometimes). Winter here in bama hasnt been too bad with only a few nights dipping bellow freezing, but I figure the cold might have something to do with it. However, once the truck is warm the transmission shifts right into gear. The problem is that even though it will shift it immediately stalls. This will also occur if I stop at a stop sign or red light not long after staring up. But if I drive for twenty minutes or so, it has no problems starting from first. Would greatly appreciate any advice. I really love this truck and want to get to the bottom of this.
Havent checked it yet, will this weekend. Like I said, it only seems to do it at start up. This morning I was going to work an it stalled numerous times. I finally got going and got to work. When I left work I started off, stalled once and drove around the parking lot and came to a dead stop a couple of times to see if it would stall. It stalled each time, but when I left the lot I drove for about ten minutes and tried a dead stop a couple of times and it didnt stall. Drove home, stopping at multiple signs/lights with no problem.
Could inttermittent failure be simply a dirty IAC?

So, I took apart the IAC the motor looked shot, lots of corrosion. I ordered a new one from AZ. Put it on today. Now, it doesn't stall, starts from first like a champ. But it seems to be idleing too high. When I crank it up it surges to 2500 rpm then immediately drops to 2000 rpm. Sometimes it gets down to 1,5 rpm but doesnt go any lower. I've read some other posts regarding this issue but am still unsure on what could cause this. I tried disconecting the batterie, but the high idle persists.
Could my IAC be bad or is this something which I can adjust?
