98 eclipse 2.0 dohc non turbo timing

hi, i have a 98 eclipse w/ a 2.0 dohc non-turbo engine. the timing belt broke. and i'm trying to time the cams correctly.each cam has 2 timing marks. can any one tell me which marks on the cam gears to use. or which way the cam lobes should face (towards or away from each other) thanks, chris

have you had the compression checked to make sure you didnt do any more damage. These are interference motors and a timing belt breaking can ruin the valves. But once you have checked that the marks on the cams should face each other

The gears have two marks. Line the marks facing each other. I you look close at the inner plastic cover behind the gears there is a mark between the gears. The cams are right with the dowl pins... front cam up and rear cam down. You can see the dowl pins by the bold that holds the gear onto the cam. 90 percent sure you have valve damage though. I have done dozens of these, may one or two didn't.

got it done

i finally got it figured out. the timing belt had already broke and bent valves. so i replaced the head w/ a reconditioned head. but was sure bout the timing when i was putting it back together. and i didnt want 2 bent any valve on the new head. but its running and back on the road again.
