bogs down in gear
I have a 92 3000 GT automatic that bogs down when in gear. It only revs up to 2500 rpms in 1st, 2nd ,D & R. There's no problem in P or N. It just happened all the sudden.
Any ideas???? |
RE: bogs down in gear
not being an expert on automatic transmissions; but, as yours is a '92, you might look for a loose or leaking vacuum line from a modulator port on the trans itself near the torque converter which should lead to the intake manifold. many older auto trans' need manifold vacuum to determine optimum shift points....but hey, as my two mitsu's, a '93 expo and an '06 outlander, are 'sticks,' what do i know...?

RE: bogs down in gear
wish i could be more help w-b, the only things i can suggest further are to check fluid level and quality. when you check the level, just look at the color of the fluid; is it cherry red (i'm assuming that trans fluid is still light-weight pink-red color oil) and if not, rub some on your fingers and take a sniff to detect a burn odor, which would indicate heat erosion of the numerous clutches and a possibly clogged filter. you might also check any metal lines from the trans to the radiator for leaks, or unscrew them to check for clogs. some of our number have mentioned atf flushing in another thread; you might check that out, but the do-it yourself methods suggested seemed a bit risky to me....i'd go for a few extra quarts after your fluid/filter change and after running a few miles, change the fluid again; a sloppy pain even once, but it might be worth it. however, i'm sure someone else would be better able to advise you. my only experience with atf and filter changes is with one american car with rwd, most of my other american cars over the years being manuals, as were my foreign cars; one opel manta, one vw scirocco, and the two mistsu's. i've really dated myself now....
good luck whatever you decide to do! |
