engine knocking-oil light
I have a 2003 montero sport. I'm on vacation and the oil light comes on and the engine is knocking. Oil level is fine. It's not smoking. Should I drive it home about 350 miles before I put it in the shop?

RE: engine knocking-oil light
knocking? Or taping? Spun bearing maybe?
|
RE: engine knocking-oil light
if it was a spun bearing, you would notice a difference in the driving... no?

RE: engine knocking-oil light
He hasnt said either way. How many miles are on the car? When was the last T-Belt change?
|
RE: engine knocking-oil light
It has 66K on it. Nver had the timiing belt changed. The sound is more of a tapping than knocking, now that you mentioned it. It drives fine.

RE: engine knocking-oil light
Could be lifter tick or something like that. How offen have you changed your oil? What oil do you use? Have you ever tried to use an oil additive?
|
RE: engine knocking-oil light
I change the oil every 3-4K miles. I use 5w-30 weight oil. I haven't tried an additive. What type of additive?

RE: engine knocking-oil light
Something to help the lifters. I tried it in my Eclispe and it worked great. Tapping is now gone. Does it rev to redline ok?

RE: engine knocking-oil light
but sebba lifter tick doesnt really explain why the oil light came on, it shouldnt do it just for that. Is the light on constantly?

RE: engine knocking-oil light
