Engine noise
Hi!
Recently my Outlander 06 has started making a strange FRRRRRRRR sound when you start pushing the throttle. Not sure what it is but it seems to be coming from the engine. I have read around on some forums about annoying noises coming from their car but it is mostly about the hissing sound problem. I went to the dealership and they didnt find any problems (Would suspect that they are not that competent). So I rather ask some internet friends that are far more experienced in car matters than me. Any ideas? or atleast something to point me in the right direction. /E |
First, does it only happen when you are moving or when you rev the engine in the driveway? Trying to rule out road noise/tires/bearings/dragging a piece of trash around/etc...

I revved the engine while standing in the driveway and it still does the sound. It happens whenever i push the throttle. I accelerated hard on a fine road and put in neutral and took my foot of the throttle and the sound subsided until it dissapeared completly.
So all i know is that it happens when i push my foot down and it slowly subside until gone when i take my foot off. Any ideas? |
OK, I forgot to ask: standard or automatic transmission?
Automatic, I'm assuming (always dangerous). It might be your torque converter. Are your fluids up to snuff, clean, topped up? Might be a transmission thing rather than an engine thing, even if it happens at a standstill. If you decide your engine is the culprit, try to localize where the sound is coming from and that in turn will point to a reasonable cause. Have an assistant under the hood with a piece of hose to use as a stethoscope to try and zero in on it. Let us know what you discover.... |
