Gears not engaging fully?

My '01 eclipse Spyder GT seems to shift ok at low revs but as soon as i put the foot down its almost as if i'm in neutral, the revs go through the roof but none of it goes to the wheels. Is the clutch / gearbox going out or maybe something simple??

hey dude i've heard about this its when your clutch is slipping im ot sure what it means but its when the revs don't have an affect on the speed.

How many miles are on the car? It sounds like your clutch is toast. To test if its slipping come to a complete stop, put it in 5th gear and try to take off it should stall but if it revs up then its slipping and needs to be replaced.

Thanks guys, I actually thought it might be and ordered a new clutch kit yesterday, hope that'll do the trick. Although do flywheels go as often? I saw some clutch kits come with flywheels but were double the price so went for the standard kit only. - Not a good time of year to start splashing the cash!

Just get the flywheel resurfaced.
