GSX..bad mileage??

Hey, I just bought a 1997 GSX and am not getting very good mileage. What is typical for these cars under normal driving conditions?

RE: GSX..bad mileage??

i average 24mpg between fillups 1/2 city, 1/2 highway, redlining every once in a while.
Highway only ive gotten as good as 32mpg when i drive like a pussy. This is all with 16g turbo, 680cc injectors, safc.

The best ways to increase mileage are:

1. inflate tires on the high side (mine are kept at ~38psi)
2. new or good condition plugs/wires
3. make sure you have no boost leaks (no intake piiping leaks)
4. clean injectors

In my experience mods have nothing to do with mileage and sometimes actually gove u better mileage, but if you have crappy mileage check the 4 things above. If those 4 are fine, you may want to do a compression test. If you have a bown head gasket or crappy compression your gas mileage will be bad.

does it feel like the car is gettin enough air into it? cuz if it does then check ur intake, my friend John had ****ty ass gas mileage so he checked his intake n he found rocks in there....i have no clue how they got there but they were there. After he cleaned it out his mileage was better...so juss a thought, check 2 see if ur intake is clean or if there is nething in there.

RE: GSX..bad mileage??

Hey, I had my car checked out today and they said I had a bad air filter so they changed that and also the code read that my front o2 sensor was bad so I will have to order one of those today. Thanks for your help, I hope I get better mileage out of this car now!
