Loud high pitched squeel?

My 97 eclipse gst will squeel really loud in the morning or when it is sitting around for awhile. Ive been told it could be the alternator, the belts, or the turbo?
It usually stops when it gets cold but it is really loud and goes on for about 30 seconds. Any ideas on what it is?

Or it might be the Bearing of the Alternator.

I would check the belts and replace them if they're cracked or glazed.

RE: Loud high pitched squeel?

I have the exact same problem. Mine (97 GST) does it when it is cold but will stop after annoying the neighbors (at 6 AM)for 30-60 seconds. It'll do it one more time briefly when I make the first turn onto 6th Ave. Then, when I leave work it will scream for another 30 sec then be fine.

The belts are brand new. The p/s belt seems to be wearing some on one side. The pulley is visibly out of whack and I am trying to find a way to get another one (See the new topic in "Everything Else".) I also can get the A/C belt to squeal when the car is cold and I turn the defrost on. Will someone please explain whyDSM thought it wouldbe a good idea to have the A/C on when you are using defrost???

One suggestion was to roughen up the pulley surface with a fine emery cloth. Hard to do between the grooves. I used 320 sandpaper but it didn't do much for me. The belts seem to be very tight, but the book suggests that is the way it should be -- +/- 5mm at 22lbs. Any other thoughts????
