Over-heating

When im driving my car is fine, but when im idling or parked, my car starts to over-heat until i give it some gas. Any ideas?

RE: Over-heating

It sounds to me as if your thermostat isn't completely opening. Cooling off after giving it some gas could mean that the water pump is forcing coolant through.

Check your rad fan and be sure that it is kicking on. Also, be sure that you're using a 50/50 water/coolant mix and not using more coolant than water. The coolant part is the lubricant/protectant, the water is the part that extracts the heat.

So, check thermostat...hell, just change it, they're not expensive, neither is the coolant. Also be sure the fan kicks on when the temp gets hot enough to turn on.

if its only at idle, its most likely a fan problem, when your car starts to overheat, have someone look to see if your fan's running, but dont leave the car running too long or it will overheat and cause probems
