Ticking Sound

When I started up my car today a ticking sound started coming out of the dashboard. I checked all the lights, turn signals, ect. I did not have the radio on, or the A/C. Where is this sound coming from and how do I make it stop? OOPs , I posted this without telling what kind of car I have. It is a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES 4 Dr Sedan.

hey man. could be your lifters. and prolly will hafta buy some new ones to make it stop. i've heard that if you mix some automatic tranny fluid in w/ ur oil next time u change your oil (not sure exactly how much) it could get all that grimey **** off there and make it go away. but that stuff is pretty strong and could also damage something if you use too much.

that is why i asked if it could be comming from the engine. If so then it most likely is your lifters. Nothing to worry about. It shouldn't cause any major problems.

ive seen that in a few galants...if it is definitely coming from the dash its a clock spring i think. it should be a fairly loud noise and if you touch the dash you can feel it. but if thats not it its your lifters and its not worth bothering with

If it is coming out of your dash then it is most like an electric relay going bad. There are many relays under the dash. I would recommend taking it to a shop.

Is it safe to assume your warranty has expired? On one of my other cars the voltmeter or speedo did that when I started it for about 5 seconds, but cannot remember which it was for sure. It was just some new software that needed to be loaded into the car and it went away. How long does the ticking last?

sorry, forgot one more thing, does it worsen when you accelerate?

Mine is doing this, but only when I turn the AC all the way to the coldest setting. :(

Anyone know what that is?
