Understanding overheating.

Hi,

i have been tasked with fixing my sister Pajero.???

Head has been changed.(not me)

Fitted new gasket to leaky water pump.

Radiator seems ok.

Can't work out how expansion bottle works:

Why only one hose to/from radiator?

I'm used to a kinda loop system \\\(i'm no mechanic) Help me understand.

Overheats within minutes if driven hard. can get about on low revs

Please help

Only one hose from radiator to expansion tank and a overflow hose.

Checked my mothers suzuki and that's the same.

I thought it was a Japanese thing??????????????

no thats how the overflow works. When you run out of fluid it draws from it. And when the car starts to overheat it will start to spill into the tank. All through that hose.

I would check maybe a bad waterpump

Thanks for the replys guys.

I'm going to take the radiator to Star Radiators in Glasgow ( Seem like decent guys and gave me two free rad caps before when my sister lost it). They will check it for nowt and £185 - £225 depending on model - apparently six different types, for a full recore. I've been told that the rad should hold about 9 1/2 litres. I filled the car and rad with about seven after fixing the water pump gasket.

I'll keep you posted opn the results

Cheers again.
