Valves or Pistons???

MY #3 cylinder stopped firing, and i got a compression tests done on it and it came ou to be 10- 20 on that 1 cylinder. This probalem didnt arise until the day i went to the track when i was coming back home. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be and how hard it would be to DIY? The car still runs it just has a loss of power. Oh yeah its 1992 Eclipse GS-T

RE: Valves or Pistons???

IT COULD BE A CRACK COMPRESSION RING OR A CRACK VALVE WITH OUT OPENING THE ENGINE IS HARD TO TELL.BUT A LEAK TEST COULD REVEAL WHERE THE COMPRESSION IS GOING UP ( VALVES )OR DOWN RINGS

LOL.....DON'T LISTEN TO THAT LAST POST. IF IT WAS A PISTON RING IT WOULD BE BLOWING SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE BECUASE THOSE RINGS SEAL THE FIRING CHAMBER FOR COMPRESSION AS WELL AS SEALING OIL OUT OF THE FIRING CHAMBER.
IF IT WAS A BAD VALVE YOU WOULD HEAR THAT, LOST OF CLATTERING AND OTHER OBSCENE NIOSES FROM THE ENGINE. MORE THEN LIKELY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ELECTRICS, CHECK THE PLUGS. AND INGITION SYSTEM.

ELECTRICS??? I DIDN'T KNOW THAT ELECTRICS WILL DECREASE COMPRESSION............AS FOR THE RINGS,IS EXACLTY AS YOU SAID COMPRESSION RING SEALS COMPRESSION ONCE AGAIN COMPRESSION NOT OIL REMEMBER YOU HAVE A MIDDLE RING TOO....LOL LOL
