I have a carisma 1.8 GDI only gone 50K miles.. It has seen 5-6000 RPM's now and then... The engine doesnt sound so good anymore... It seems like it has lost some of its power.. did mitsu create crappy engine for this model?</P>
Thanx a lot for your help...

Carisma GDI ha! ur lucky its still running we were doing de-coke's on them 500miles after new! the high revs are probably due to a carbon build up in the throttle body causing the throttle flap to intermitantly stick open and the poor performance will be carbon build up in the throttle body, inlet manifold and combustion chamber particulary on the injectors. If you take off the engine cover then the air intake hose from the throttle body, open the throttle by holding the cable or if its a fly by wire body struggle a bit! With a clean rag use brake cleaner and wipe away as much carbon as possible. dont spray brake cleaner inside though. If you want to do the job properly you could take the throttle body off the inlet manifold, 4 12mm bolts, 2 coolant pipes and 2 connectors and clean it with a small steel brush expecially round the throttle flap. you will notice the difference in performance and the revs wont stick. Also try a good injector cleaner its a direct injection petrol engine and they get a massive carbon build up on the injector nozzle, at just short of a grand a piece they dont come cheap. its not a perement fix as GDI uses constant EGR and at 40:1 it will soon coke up again! the other alternative is a trip to the dealer where we do an in situe carbon blast using walnut shells! this does fix the running problem but its expensive. the answer to have mitsubishi made a bad engine! YES!
