Default Mitsubishi motor codes

Alright if you find anything out of place or a mistake let me know, I got alot of this info from a online source(non mitsubishi) so I wouldnt be suprised if there were some mistakes.

Many have asked what motor does my car have, or what motor is this. Here is a directory that will explain them all, before I go nuts here is a bit of info that will help you read the motor codes.

Mitsubishi uses a mix of numbers and letters to name their motors

The first digit is the number of cylinders, the second is the fuel type, the third is the engine family, and the last is the model. So a 4g63 is a 4 cylinder, gas, number 6 family, model 3 motor. Note that some cases the first number was dropped to add room for a 5th number either a "t" for turbocharged or "b" for second generation... like a 6 bolt or 7 bolt motor.

EFI= electronic fuel injection
SOHC= single over head cam
DOHC= double over head cam

For the Inline 4 cylinder motors the family/groups are as follows
4g1x- 1.2 to 1.5 liter motors
4g3x- 1.2 to 1.8 liter motors
4g5x- 2.0 to 2.6 liter motors
4g6x- 1.6 to 2.4 liter motors
4g9x- 1.6 to 2.0 liter motors

For the v 6 motors
6a1x- 1.6 to 2.5 liter motors
6g7x- 2.5 to 3.8 liter motors

4G1X motors: 1970’s old school motors, introduced with the colt and colt related cars. All are iron head/block motors only EFI motor is the 4g15.

4g11- 1.2 liter sohc
4g12- 1.4 liter sohc
4g13- 1.3 liter sohc
4g15- 1.5 liter sohc w/ gas direct injection
4g16- 1.2 liter sohc

4G3X motors: 1980’s motors, all motors aluminum head/iron block. Motors used in mitsu cars along with hyundia cars.

4g32- 1.6 liter motor sohc
4g33- 1.4 liter motor sohc
4g66- 1.2 liter motor sohc
4g37- 1.8 liter motor sohc

4G5x motors: All sohc motors, these were the first motors to use a balancing shaft earning them the title of silent shaft motors. Also these cars used a extra intake valve(similar to vetch). These were used in many Mitsu’s along with Mazda’s and Hyundai’s. Cast Iron blocks/aluminum heads some had EFI.

4g52- 2.0 liter motor sohc
4g54- 2.6 liter motor sohc
4g55- 2.3 liter motor sohc

4G6X motors: found in many mitsu/dodge/hyundia/plymouth/eagle cars. Came in many different models, sohc, dohc, turbocharged, 6 bolts 7 bolts. All motors cast iron block/ aluminum head, most EFI motors.

4g61:- 1.6 liter motor dohc
4g62:- 1.8 liter motor sohc
4g63:- 2.0 liter motor sohc/dohc
g63t:- 2.0 liter motor sohc/dohc
4g64- 2.4 liter motor sohc/dohc
4g67- 1.8 liter motor sohc

4G9X motors: These are the newest motors Mitsubishi has made. These motors are sohc, dohc, or mivec. All cast iron block/aluminum head, EFI.

4g92- 1.6 liter motor sohc/mivec
4g93- 1.8 liter motor sohc/dohc
4g94- 2.0 liter motor sohc

6A1X motors: v6 motors produced by mitsu, the 1.6 is the worlds smallest 6 cylinder motor mass produced. All cast iron block/aluminum head, EFI.

6a10- 1.6 liter motor dohc, the worlds smallest mass produced v6, apparently it was the most sought after motor for tuners in Japan, it was recorded at making 430bhp n/a.
6a12- 2.0 liter motor sohc/mivec… not so famous
6a13- 2.5 liter motor, still in development

6G7X motors: available with sohc, dohc, or mivec. All motors have a cast iron block/aluminum head. All EFI.

6g72- 3.0 liter motor sohc/dohc
6g73- 2.5 liter motor sohc/dohc
6g74- 3.5 liter motor sohc/dohc/mivec
6g74 GDI- 3.5 liter motor, first GDI motor of its kind.
6g75- 3.8 liter motor sohc/dohc/mivec

Lastly the mistu/mopar motors. Unfortunately not a whole lot of info exists on these motors because they are not seen as performance motors, also currently manufacturing of the neon/eclipse Chrysler motors has stopped meaning they are soon to be a thing of the past.

A1.8- 1.8 liter sohc motor
A588- 2.0 liter sohc motor most commonly found in neon’s
420A- 2.0 liter dohc motor, 2g non turbo eclipse motor
EDZ- 2.5 liter dohc motor, swap for the 2g non turbo eclipse
EY7- 2.5 liter sohc motor, swap for the 2g non turbo eclipse
EVD- 2.5 liter dohc turbo motor, used in the pt curser r/t
EDT- 2.5 liter sohc turbo motor, used in the srt-4.

Like I said if I missed something pm me with the corrections. Also a car/motor cross reference list is in the works.
