Ok I have a real problem, please answer this question

I may not be well liked on this forum but this is the only place I know i can get a reliable answer so here goes......

When i put gas in my tank, it leeks (pours) out from under the car near the passenger rear tire (where the fuel goes in).....

But when the fuel is already in the tank, it doesnt leak.

My question is "Where is the 00 eclipse GS 2.4 L GAS TANK?" I would like to know if its my gas tank, or if its a pipe leading into the gas tank (which i personally think it is).

If any1 knows what part I would need please feel free to answer. Thanks for the help.

Wow...sounds serious. I honestly don't know much about the 00" eclipse but I would recommend that you take it to Mitsubishi or a reliable shop. I'm guessing since it's an 00", you might not have warranty. Mitsubishi as well as any shop will charge for the diagnostic procedure. Once you identify the issue, make a few calls and see where you would get the work done the cheapest. And I'm saying this in assumption that everyone else recommends you take it in. If you r up for the task of fixing it your self then work quickly.

look under the car. its pretty easy to figure out where the tank is. It is usually just in front of the hump where the spare tire sits. which means directly beneath the rear seat.

Ok here is what your looking at. Judging from what you have described id say the leak is somewhere in the filler hoses. Now the filler system appears to be a bit complex from this diagram below. But basically i have circled in red the two main parts to look into. Because your saying its really pouring out of there id start with these two because that is where you will really see a big leak. Otherwise if its pretty small you could look into some of the vent hoses that are shown in the diagram. Hope this helps

ya that diagram really is what i was looking for but i couldnt find it on google.

and i enlarged the photo to get a clearer understanding and its leaking right out of the filler neck protector (Part 17) so Im guessing the hole is somewhere between that and the gas cap on the "FUEL FILLER NECK ASSEMBLY" lol.....i guess the protector didnt really do its job....

well the protector doesnt protect against rust...which i bet is the culprit here

so this is an easy fix then?

i dont think it will be that easy of a fix. He is probably going to have to replace the whole filler neck assembly.

what are the possibilities that its just a loose clamp?
