Question regarding Montero losing PS

Driving our Montero Sport and while in a turn I lost power steering. The check engine, battery and brake lights are all on now. What could this be from? We've had a problem with the harmonic balancer in the past 6 months- husband put it back on. Could it be loose and have caused this?
