Recirculation Button
 

2003 Eclipse GT, 144K miles.

I was driving in the rain, with the compressor on and the defroster setting, to defog the windshield. I heard a brief squeal from the engine compartment, and when I looked down, the compressor light was flashing. I believe that when you have it set on defroster, both the compressor and recirculating are activated.

Now the compressor appears to be working, but the recirculating button doesn't do anything. I'm not sure if it's stuck on recirculating air or outside air, but the Internet has not been helpful in diagnosing it.

Any thoughts?
