ok, so i keep hearing about a stroker 4g64.
1. What is a stroker engine, what are the differences between a stroker and a normal 4g64 engine?
2. What kind of power differences are there in these two powerplants?
3. What kind of time and $ does it take to do this, would it be cheaper to do the head swap or drop a whole new engine in?
4. In general, how hard is this to do?
ok, thats all the questions i have about this. If this is one of those things only a performance shop can do and costs a couple grand, then just tell me to not even bother thinking about it.........
thanks all

Ahh you've discovered the red-headed stepchild of mitsubishi engines. The "afterthought" as some would call it. The 4g64 was conceived for everyday duty on the galant and mistu trucks and suvs. It relies on the strength of the powerhouse 4g63, but has the reliability and simplicity of the everyday normal Naturally Aspirated engine. The engine is a variation of the 4g63 and has close to the same block as the 4g63 except for a slight diferent bore(87.5mm vs 86mm on the 4g63) and a much longer stroke(100mm vs. 88mm4g63). As you can see from the bore and stroke, this engine has the ability to produce massive amounts of torque down low in the powerband. Now, don't be confused with the stroker kits and the stroker engine. The stroker kit retains the 4g63's bore of 86mm, so it yeilds 2.3liters of displacement. The 4g64 clocks in at an even(well, odd) 2351cc, so when rounded it's 2.4 liters. The stroker kits, just use a 4g64 crank to acheive desired stroke. The "4g64 stroker" kits being sold are called so because of this reason. The true stroker is a mistu oem 4g64. If you have a 4g63, you can upgrade the block to a 4g64. If you have a 4g64, you can upgrade the head and turbocharge the crap out it. Either way, i'm glad they cme up with the 4g64.

a bored engine is one that has had its cylinders made oversized... a stroked engine is one that has had replaced internals to shorten the rod length and achieve a larger displacement.... larger displacement... good.... shorter rods.... change in compression ratios..... ok...

Yeah, but that puts us at the question "what is a 4g64?" It's technically as bored and stroke 4g63, but most refer to it as just a stroked 4g63. The bore is still very significant, but almost mintue in comparison to the stroke. I dunno, i think since the stroke overshadows the bore by so much, i just call it a stroked version....plus i'm too lazy to type Bored and stroked...just too lazy...

4G64 is a very fun motor to play with....I would highly recommend it to anybody who wants a challenge and a great way to relocate power on an eclipse....I got an extra block laying around my garage too for future possibilities with my car....hehe
