Default Engine code P0400 (emissions) question

All right, engine light came on (for my '96 3000GT SL) and is reading off P0400, which is for emissions. At the moment there is a fairly large exhaust leak coming from the flex section of the downpipe. My question is, could the exhaust escaping from the flex section, that is, a lack of exhaust gas flow throughout the entire pipe, cause my O2 sensors to register a CEL for emissions? Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and that's not possible?

Say that the exhaust leak IS the problem. When I get it replaced or fixed (should be sometime over the next week), and the leak is gone, would simply erasing the engine code with the OBDII take care of everything?[/align]

Yes simply erasing the code should do it

Lol yeah I know I can erase the code, I've done it a few times and it keeps coming back on an hour later as P0400. I need to know if repairing the exhaust leak and THEN erasing the code would make sure it stayed off for good.
