porting
would it be a good idea for me to do my own porting? to go buy a kit is aoub t $80 compared to the $200 it would cost to have someone else do it. would it be in my favor to DIY it? is it THAT difficult to do. I know it takes about 6 hours or so, but I get bored sometimes and need something to pass the time.
so whats the vote? DIY? or Pay someone else? |

its really hard to do it urself my friend did it to his ls1, and it was hard and took alot a time to do. He had to get the headers out and they were way back there.

porting is more about taking ot the right amount of material in the right place. Take out too much and you can kill the airflow and lose power and torque rather than gain it. A bigger hole is not necessarily what oyu want. Depending on the car you may not want to gasket match the ports. Talk to someone with experience and see what your car likes. sometimes it's only bleding of certain radius' on the inside or outside of the curve, etc.

You could always do some polishing in place of the porting if you didn't want to get into that. Just get rid of any burrs and stuff like that to smooth out the passageways.

DIY thats the way to go, thats the only way to learn. why pay someone else to do something that you can do. save that money and buy somemore parts with it.
