what is best size when upgrading exhaust system?

I have a 98 eclipse, n/t.

I want to upgrade the headers, cat and catback exhaust but there are a few different intake/output sizes on the market

currently have 2" intake/output

can I upgrade to 3" or would 2.75" or 2.5" be better all the way through (headers/cat back/cat)

also, what is the difference between a cat converter and a test pipe?

dont go bigger than 2.5" and dont get rid of the cat

Awesome - thanks!

Any reason 2.5" is best?

Can you offer any recommendations on brand or a site that might offer a full exhaust from headers to cat to cat-back?

Do most exhaust systems come separate (buy the header, buy the cat and buy the cat-back exhaust?)

What would be the cons of 3" vs. the 2.5" or 2.75"?

Your help is greatly appreciated

the thing is when you start getting larger than 2.5" on a NT car you begin to lose backpressure which is very important on a NT car. And also when you start getting too big on a 4 cyl car you will get a very raspy sounding exhaust.

As far as what type to get...everything typically comes separetly. But alll you need to get is headers and a catback. No need to replace the cat that you already have. I would suggest Apexi or Magnaflow for exhaust as they should both give a decent sound. Here is a good site

And i think either of these headers are nice

But you can do a search on google or something for other sites that may have them cheaper. Just stay away from no-name brand stuff and ebay

Thank you very much - I can't wait to do a bit more of an educated research into my upgrade:D

I will be sure to ask for more advice, when the time comes:o
