To buy or not to buy a 3000GT SL
I have family friend that is selling a 1999 3000GT SL for $13,500. It has 38,000 miles on it and is in good condition. Not scratches, or dents, and runs good.
The only problem is that tranny leaks fluid. He said he changes it every 2-4 weeks. He told me that repairs might go around for $800-$1000 bucks.
So he will take off $1000 bucks for me because of the repairs. So around $12,500.
I have been thinking of buying it, it sounds like a good deal.
Should I buy the car??
Any comments would be helpful..
Thanks

Have you ever driven a 3000GT SL and if not, what are your expectations? I can't tell you if that is a good deal or not, but I can tell you that the 3000GT SL is dog slow as far as sports cars go. If you are looking for performance, look elsewhere.

Yeah, dont worry, I didn't listen to him. Thanks for the advice but, I did not end up buyin the car. I actually found out that it has electrical problems and that it was in an accident 4 years ago. Good thing for car history reports. It was totaled and then salvedged. So I told him NO.
But now, I am looking at an 98 SL, with 55k and I have not received an email regarding the 60k maintance. It has no problems, so I've been told, clean record and title. Gonna take a road trip to check out how it runs. Hopefully this one is it, tired of getting let down.

Depends. If you are looking for speed then go find yourself a 91-93 VR4 for about 6 Grand and put the other 7.5K into fixing it up. I mean the 99 is definitely the best looking year for the 3000GT but there are 99 Conversion kits out there that will make your car look just like a 99(3SX has one. They are a little pricy. For first gen 3000GT's I believe it is 2300 for the full front end conversion including headlights, bumper and side markers). If you are going for the SL then you can get a later year SL and still do the Conversion. If you do decide to go with this car take it to the shop and figure out exactly how much it would cost to fix because if it is 800-1000 don't do it because you can find a tranny for cheaper than that. I just think that unless it is a 99VR4 it is better to get a cheaper 3000 and use the rest of your money to build it to where you want it to be.
