How long do they last

RE: How long do they last
They usually last at least 250k depending on how they have been driven and depending on the oil change requancy etc
You should look for any smoke comeing out of the exhaust.
Look under the oil cap for mayo (white goop) and sniff it for a smell of gas.
Check the oil dipstick. If its golden brown its good... black.. walk away.
If any of that comes back positive then walk away.
Also when test driving make sure you hit every single gear many times including reverse. Also go full throttle to check the clutch is ok.

If you want your car to last forever then start rebuilding the engine and updating the body style. Go for the 99 Conversion a new paint job, possibly a JDM engine and tranny or rebuild, new suspension and your car could keep going for a long long time. One guy at my old high school had a 60's mustang with 400,000+ miles on it. He rebuilt the engine and it was running fine.

Updating the body is a matter of preference...
If there is nothing wrong with the engine, why rebuild it? It might need to be freshened up, valve stem seals, bearing tolerances checked, 180K service, but if it's not broke...why fix it till it is.
I have an RT with 160k+ and a TT with 180k+, neither one has been, nor needs to be rebuilt.

I understand where you are coming from it is just that if your car totally breaks then you will want to get rid of it instead of fixing it. That is just the way it works. I guess it is all personal preference but i would start rebuilding the engine just so I don't have to do it when it is broken. But yea I mean they can definitely last a long long time.
