Newbie needing some tech info

Hi all,

Just bought a 98 sl with a bad automatic tranny. Would someone tell me what years/models would interchange to do a swap.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

are you wanting to stay auto or are you wanting to swap to 5 speed man ???

At this point, I prefer to keep it as simple as possible, so it would probably be best to stay with the automatic.

Thanks for the reply.

From what I can see from most online application charts, they use the F4A33-1 and 91 thru 99 3000gt, 3.0L will all interchange, and I guess that would hold true for stealths as well. Can anyone confirm this with certainity.

Thx,

the basic AT should be the same but brackets and peripherals may be different depending on model and year. There will be more chance of differences if it's a Japanese crate motor trans also.

I did a engine swap on a 98 2WD and had to change the oil pan because the Japanese crate motor was AWD and wouldn't bolt to the existing trans because the pan had different brackets.

the first thing to check is electrical connectors, if they're not the same and you can't just change a sensor you're SOL.

not all are directly swappable. The solenoids did have different resistance values from early to later years, and plugging in the older ones will damage the TCM.

just get the correct year.

Where are you located? We have one from a 98 SL for sale if you are interested.

Well, haven't heard from Girly, so I bought one out of Fla. that is out of a 95 stealth and is supposed to have been rebuilt less than a year ago. I hope this works.
