98 3000GT SL
92 3000GT VR4

The problem with the 98 is that it's salvage. I don't know why cause the owner is telling me that the car was complete when he bought it and that it was only stolen that's why is salvage
All I know is that it has a salvage title but the car looks complete, and when driving it it has no problems in any gear.
Price 6000

I know the 92 just had a new transmission install about 3 months ago.
the car overall looks clean.

I like the 92 cause it has more power but when driving the 98 is feels just as fast, but then maybe thats just me.

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I don't know which car to buy.

 

well the 92 is fast but the 98 is not as fast what so ever. the 92 is awd, aws, tt, ect... the 98 is fwd, fws, nt. the 1st gen is more notorious for problems than the 98. although its salvage you might find the 98 a better car. idk theres alot more in deciding which is better. milage? condition of either?

 

I have a 92 VR4 and so far minor problems mainly with the tranny.And I use to havea 97 base modeland I got tired of the crap. But if the one you are looking at just got replace than great. Can't go wrong with a VR4 just be prepared to spend when things go wrong. The Question you should ask your self is how much do you like the car? Are more for style or speed? 98 looks great but 92 and some body mods can look just the same.

is the 98 a manual? i'm assuming that all vr4's are manual.no?

and like reggie said above, you can make the 92 look like the 98 or even better, but it won't be cheap. you'd be looking @...

i dont think all vr-4 were manual.
as for the 98' you have the dohc engine in there so thats a big plus. if the cars are manual they both are going to have a 5 speed. both probably have ecs. the 92 probably has active aero and active exhaust which are freakin awesome features. and the awd is something that is going to keep you safer in the rain or snow. my 94 sl is horrible in the rain and snow. so the 98 is most likely going to be the same way. i would try to talk down the price of the 92 because it might be a better steal than the 98'. you'll feel better about driving a vr-4 than the 98' more power and control. a better car all around.

 

All VR-4's came from the factory with manual transmissions.

 

i thought i saw one that was an automatic in the paper. must have been a misprint. thanks for correcting me.

 

miles on the two might also help you decide. and also, if the miles are high enough on either of them, check to see that the 60000 and 120000, etc. have been done

WRONG!
91-93 3000GT VR4's had an optional automatic. I know so because my friend had a 1st gen VR4 automatic.
