tachometer issue

the tachometer on my 3000gt does not rev past 3000 rpm no matter the engine speed. it moves up and down but like its receiving 20% of the signal...never rev's past. ive seen it work properly only a few times when i first got the car but now...never. I swapped out the computer, cam angle sensor, throttle position sensor, and idle air control from a recently acquired stealth parts car...still has same issue...what gives?

Have you tried hooking up another tach? Or replacing the stock tach? It sounds like it's simply a guage error if everything else has been replaced or works fine. Any opinions, Em?

pretty sure its not the tach

I also swapped the gauge cluster from the parts car and still had same issue.

The signal for the tach comes from the CAS right? What is the relationship to the coil packs?

Now, I'm not positive on the exact relationship, but I'm pretty sure the CAS inputs into the coil packs, to assist with firing at the right time. The signal for the Tach does come from the CAS. This is really an odd question, and one that I don't have the expertise to nail down for ya. Sorry man, but hopefully someone else will be able to provide assistance.

Thanks for your time...I think it might be a wire issue...bad ground or something. I've cleaned all the contacts I can get to. Guess I need to spend some quality time with my Fluke.
