transmission problem
OK, I drive a 94 3000gt and have not had any major problems in a long time, it is at 125k mis now. Now that said, two days ago, I was driving around and all of a sudden, It got noticably more difficult to shift gears. The clutch still engages, but then when I go to shift, it is as if im trying to shift without engaging the clutch. It got so bad that at times I couldnt get it into gear at all, then all of a sudden, sometimes it shifts fine, but now it is pretty much all bad. I searched for my transmission fluid reservoir near the firewall and could not find it. Whats it look like? Does it seem reasonable that maybe im just out of fluid? Or does it sound worse?
Thanks for any help

RE: transmission problem
Check the fluid in the slave cylinder resoivoir. I think that either you are getting low on fluid or you have an air bubble in your line. I highly doubt you have an air bubble though... If you pump your clutch pedal a few times, does the pedal stiffen up and make it so you can shift better?

RE: transmission problem
Look at the area I have circled. Looking down, you should see a white cap that pops off (does not screw off) I can't recall what kind of writing the cap has on it, but it should be easily seen. You should put regular brake fluid in it if it's empty and you may have to bleed it. Bleeding it depends if you ran completely out of fluid or not

First, Thank you so much for your help!
I have checked this reservoir and it is definitely full.... drove the car for the first time in two days just a minute ago...did about 4 laps around the block, it was bad at first, then it was perfectly fine for two of them, and then the same difficulty shifting came back... air bubble? The fluid in the reservoir looked pretty cloudy gray...maybe this needs to be bled and replaced?

RE: transmission problem
That would be a really good idea since it is cheap and easy (all you need is a helper to push the clutch) You could try that, but I have not really heard of an air bubble just all of a sudden appearing in a line like that. Do you know where the bleed valve is on the slave cylinder?

RE: transmission problem
Well, if you don't...
It is located on top of your transmission towards the firewall. I think you can use a 1/4" wrench to turn it...
1.Pump the clutch a few times and hold the pedal to the floor.
2.Open and then close the valve while the pedal is to the floor.
3.After this step is accomplished... you are going to have to manually pull the pedal back up. It will not do it by itself. This is normal.
Keep doing steps 1-3 over again a few times until the pedal seems normal again.
WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP ADDING BRAKE FLUID TO THE RESOIVOIR so it does not run out.
