Turbo upgrades

Hello eveybody, I am a recently converted mustang builder. I bought a 93 vr4 about three months ago and now I looking to make it a little faster. with the research Ive done, the first thing I want to do is upgrade my stock tdo4-9b's up to some 15G's. My questions are what mod besides the turbos would help maximize hp/trq gains and what other options aside from the 15G's would be a good match with comperable power and instalation ease?

There are many different turbo uprades you can go with. I would advise joining the 3si boards(free)(www.3si.org) so you can post your questions there. Here is a little list of turbo upgrades you can go with and about how much you can expect to see on the dyno with them. Also keep in mind that you need to upgrade your fuel system cuz with more air you need more fuel so your car doesn't run lean.
TURBO'S AND EXPECTED POWER:
1. 13g(420awhp)
2. dr500(425awhp)
3. 15g(500awhp)
4. dr650(515awhp)
5. 13t(525awhp)best bang for the buck
6. 19t(551awhp)
7. evo 16g(650awhp)
8. Single GT35R
9. 18g
10. dr800(700awhp)
11. dr900(750awhp)--Single GT40R
12. 20G-TD06
13. dr1000
14. Ray's car Twin GT30R
15. dr1200
16. Single GT42R
17. 25G-TD07
18. Nelsons Car Twin GT40R

In my opinion, I would go with 13T's if I were you. They are sourced from WRX's and put out HUGE numbers and are so cheap. There is alot of info on them on the 3si boards. You can send your 9b's to get em converted by somebody or just buy a pair off of somebody selling them on 3si. 13T's will prob run you about 7-800. Way less than 15G's and you will make way more power. Plus the 13T's are an incredibly streetable turbo so you won't have to wait to crazy RPM's before you get power like say the DR1000's haha. It depends what you are trying to do again. If you are just going for crazy hp numbers then you need to go TDO5 or bigger turbo's but for a more streetable car then you might wanna stick with TD04.....With 13T's you should run 560cc injectors and a hot-wired walbro 255lph fuel pump and a Front Mount IC(side mounts can't really handle it). A FMIC setup shouldn't cost you more than 500 or so bucks. Don't pay 2500 for the 3sx crap hahaha. Get a 24x12x3 IC from ebay for like 150 and get the piping from somebody for like 250-300. Well I hope this helps. I am sortof in a hurry so sorry if some ideas just run into others. Have a good one,

13T's - avoid.

Not sure about anyone else using these, but I never managed to get above 450bhp at the flywheel with a pair of 13T's and plenty of supporting mods (Greddy emanage ultimate, AVCR, forged pistons/rods, uprated fuel system and pump, 550cc injectors, ignition amp, DNR headers, etc etc, rolling road tuned) The 13T's were supplied by Evil Empire Performance in the UK (not sure if they're still in business.)

Go for DR650r's - they're worth the extra cash, and instantly added 50bhp to my car with no other mods over the 13Ts.

MHI 13g's. They are the PERFECT street turbos. Or a 16t/19t turbo (search RobBeck on www.3si.org he makes them). 13g's have nearly stock-like spool response, and hold very good power to redline. the 16t/19t have a little more lag, but are also EXCELLENT street turbo choices. All 3 of those turbos will bolt directly onto your car.

15g's are a little laggy for every-day street use, but are good as well.

intake
exhaust
downpipe
boost controller
550cc injectors
afc-II/afc neo (make sure it is a reprogrammed/updated unit)
larger fuel pump/hotwire kit

and I would get some stainless steel brake lines, upgraded brake pads and rotors as well. For all that power you're adding to go fast... you're going to want to beef up the brakes in order to stop :)

what would be good is if you could find them, a set of td04 - tdo5 adaptor plates so you can bolt on mitsu flanged turbos. i have a set thats going on my vr4 with a pair of 16g's.

The nice thing about the 13G's or DR500 turbos is that they bolt right on as a direct replacment, and you don't HAVE to do other upgrades to support them while still getting a decent increase in power. And if you decide later you want more power, you can do othher upgrades to get more out of those turbos.

Personally, I've used the adapter plates and TD05 16G turbos. 'm currently using TD05 headers instead of the adapter plates. While these urbos make lots of power, they have a lot of lag and work better at the track than on the street. But when the turbos finally spool up, it's like firing a rocket.
