Well, I just bought an OEM 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante shop service manual (vol 1 & vol 2)online for $65.00. As far as I'm concerned, it's worth it's weight in gold...
I've been putting off some work like:
Changing the plugs-
Changing all my belts ( beside the T-Belt)
pulling the abs sensors
locating the fuel filter
No need to go any further.
Hey mrvivona, Thanks for pointing me to ebay for the manual.

It is normal for the Bars Leak to give the coolant a brown color. You will also see brown mushy material around the radiator cap gasket and also in the coolant recovery tank. All that is normal.

The A/T filter is internal on the 2002 Diamante, so changing it is a hassle and extra cost. Though I have dropped transmission pans and changed many transmission filters in the past, I have never found one visibly dirty. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change it on the second time around, though. Here's an idea - with the service manual in hand you should be doing your own oil changes and transmission flushes. All the information and instructions are there.

I gave up on having others change my oil when I saw so many bad shop practices being done on my car, including stripping out the oil pan drain plug. Changing my own oil gets me under the car to inspect CVJ boots, check for oil leaks and other inspection items. The manual tells how to properly change the transmission fluid, including flushing the torque converter by running the engine. Always put in the specific ATF called for in the manual.

My wife's 02 does not have TCL so I cannot comment on your question. Check the service manual for specific diagnosis steps. Some of the steps may require use of the factory scan tool and that is too expensive, but many of the checks can be done without one.

mrvivona again thanks for the information and the helpfull hints. I will take your advice and do as you mentioned. I've been hesitant doing maint. myself w/o a shop manual in hand. One of the main reasons for joining this site. Once I get the manuals I'll be doing alot of overdue scheduled maint. Plugs/wires, alt-belt, and of course brakes and whatever else I can afford to do.
