2005 Endeavor LS type of oil at high milage, and engine light on and off
So I just purchased this car just under 3 months ago. It has 178,000 KMS.
I changed the oil + the filter for the first time and used 5W-20 oil (the factory recommended)
I brought it to my dad's mechanic because the engine light turns on and off (this is a separate issue) anyway... I told him the engine sounds a bit noisy, theres ticking noises and a knock.
He looked at the engine oil dipstick, and told me that its low of 1L. oil, and that I should add a thicker kind of oil (10-40) because it is no longer a brand new engine. I couldn't find 10-40 synthetic so I bought 10-30 instead. He said it's fine and proceeded to add it to the existing 5W-20 synthetic oil (I changed the oil only 3 weeks ago)
He said next time I should use 10-40 oil from now on.
What are your opinion's on this, and is this okay?
