Default Rear Catalytic Converter

I have a 2004 Endeavor that just failed a California Smog test. I guess the rear OEM Catalytic Converter had been changed out with a non "CARB" compliant converter before I bought the car on 2/2010.

I will need to change this converter out with a Dealer Catalytic Converter. Part Number MR552893. This will cost $2300.00 for the part. The Converter is sold as part of the Intermediate Pipe.

There is no approved aftermarket CARB compliant Catalytic Converters for this car.

Can someone tell me if the 2004 and the 2008 Endeavor exhaust system is the same? I can buy the 2008 - 2011 Dealer Catalytic Converter and Intermediate pipe for $345.00. The Part Number is 1570B007.

It seems odd that the 2008 part is so much cheaper than the 2004 part. They look the same to me.
