Evo's are so badass =D

so i went to a used car dealership for the hell of it, and than i saw a Yellow 03' Evo. loved it, the guy came over and asked if i wanted to buy it, the guy was cool, a racer himself having a FC Rx7, a FD Rx7, and an Rx8. damn he drove first and it felt like a rocket, i almost Sh!t my pants, because he redlined every gear and took turns like nothing. i love this car, and want to buy one right now, but need to finance it. when i drove it i took it slow. can i ask whats the potential of the evo on stock block in the hp scale? thanks guys.

Good tune can run around 500HP to the ground before needing a rebuild

are they really reliable? or what breaks down the most?

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

Well put it this way... in the UK (not sure if the same for the US) they need to be services every 3k miles and they should ONLY run on Shell Optimax fuel. So technically its not cheap to maintain when you have to pay a dealer to check the car every 3k. Its upto you really.

With 500hp it may have an effect on the reliability of the car. Not to mention if its been driven the **** out of ... good one Mr. Test Driver

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

You dont need to have it serviced every 3k, unless you mean oil change. Obviously you can only put 93 octane in it or better. But for things that go wrong, the one thing that comes up all the time is the transfer case breaking, and its becuase people with launch the car at like 5-6k and not feather the clutch and do this multiple times, then they will break.

dirtwagon 10-04-2006 07:20 PM

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

Since you are from CA you will only be able to find 91 octane at the regular pumps. You will also pay a sh!t load of money on insurance- CA is so frickin expensive as compared to everywhere else for insurance. It also seems that people complain about the clutch a lot, so check the miles and see if it's the original clutch...if it is you may want to factor in the price of a new clutch just to be safe.

Sebba 10-04-2006 07:32 PM

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

Either that or just ride the **** out of the clutch within the dealer warrenty LOL.

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

EVO clutches are not strong to higher power over stock. I am on stock clutch no trouble and I am around 300-330 WHP depending on gas I use.

91 octane is fine it MUST be 91 or higher.

Brake pads sqeek in most and wear fast and dust like crazy

tires Stock advans where very fast and are expensive (so I went with el cheapos on mine)

the T case breaks if you cant drive it right out of the hole (dont drop the clutch)

the wings paint fades on the carbon fiber and spots white

the calipers fade and turn pink and white

other than that normal maintenece stuff (yess it ia $$$$ to maintain but well worth it)

the cars are very reliable the worst thing that brakes expensive parts is racing from a stop and dropin the clutch hard from hi revs

I just had my Evo IX dynoed at 315whp and smoked a 2005 GT Mustang the other day....Evo's are definitely awesome in the hands of experienced drivers.

you can beat the EVO really hard just dont launch it hard all day long. and any car you need to keep up on service.

BTW $21k for my black 03;)

well in about three weeks, since i have a job, my parents are going to co sign and help me with the down payment, and then im going to be paying the monthly fee.

you can still go to a bank (credit union) and apply for the loan for my can and get auto financeing it just elimnates the middle man.

Think of this my car will cost you roughly $350\mo with a good rate but a new IX or slightly used EVO will cost you probe $450.

My car book value is $24600 and I am going way under that since I can based on what I owe and would like to get rid of the car so I can save some $$$$. Plus my car is never launched (maybe 5 times ever) I am on the stock clutch and on average I have doubled the life of the clutch compaired to most because I dont launch it. and my car is well kept

The car is in Ma. It was a Fl car untill 6 months ago. always garaged untill then never seen snow. I have stock exhaust IC pipes and intake as well. The wing is going to be replace as soon as it comes in it is on backorder at mitsu (warrenty is changing it for me from carbon fiber fading) the car has the check engine light from having not CAT converter (which I do have) it also has a rejection from having no CAT. other than that it has 2 rock chips on the front windsheild (there before I bought it and i took it home with 12k on it) it has on ding on the hood and two small dings on the bottom of the front bumper but look in the pics not even noticeable. I am giving forums members and extra $1000 in mods from what I am asking elsewhere because I would let you take the Wideband and SAFC and BOV for $21k but other wise those are staying with me and I am asking $21k.

car details ($2600 in mods listed here)

2003 Lancer Evolution VIII
39k miles

Mods:
Injen upper and lower IC pipes
Injen custom Intake

Misc mods

It is between 300-330 I am guessing to the ground (depending on gas and PSI used) on 91 octane maybe a little less.

It will pass smog as long as the CAT is put back on (which the cat goes with the car)

I have Just recently purchased my '06 Evo Mr.... and while Quick.. I must say that if I was to simply go for a drive for fun I'd take my s-15 any day over the Evo... However I have registered here to try to figure out what the best avenue to tune a diamond star is. I am looking forward to learning from you all... Thanks.

Sebba 11-22-2006 01:51 AM

RE: Evo's are so badass =D

Best to tune that would be either DSM Link or AEM EMS... for anything under 500hp then Apexi SAFC II will do fine.
