a dyno is a meter than measures your cars HP to the wheels. Flash means a reprogram of your cars computer to make more power. It is a tune. Stock Evos come running pig rich which is ultra safe to prevent blowing the motor but it also kills alot of HP that way and MPG too. So when they flash the Ecu they lean it out a little more to a normal level. On a bone stock Evo if you get a flash you will gain around 20WHP with no other mods done to the car. you will also start getting 25-50 more miles to a tank of gas and sometimes better than that

usually after each new mod a flash will be usfull. So in other words what I would do is buy all the basic mods up front and wait to have the all put on at the same time and get the flash based off of the mods you have.
If you get a flash on a stock Evo then add exhaust and intake and a FMIC your tune will need to be redone to yeild the most power and safety out of the added mods

you can do it yourself but I do not recommend it. You need to know how to tune timing and fuel maps. No offence I guessing you would not be able to do that at this point (I cant even do that)
It is safer on your motor to have it done profesionally. It can be cheaper than $600 too just shop around. There are places that were doing email tunes for like $99. But you also need to log a few gear pulls and email the logs over which again takes alittle bit of knowledge. Search around about tractirx cable and Evoscan software. Do lots and lots of reading on these and youll start to learn some things

If you choose to do the email flash yourself I can help you out with any questions or problems you have hooking up a PC to your car (I recommend Jestr Tuning). If you choose to go with a company to flash your car I would get a custom tune on the dyno; it's expensive for the first run but then as you add parts it's cheap for additional tunes and will be very accurate and produce more power than just mailing your ECU to the company.
