Default RE: question on bov

The reason for a blow off valve is to release the pressure built up by the turbo that is no longer needed. The reason it is no longer needed is because your foot is off the throttle and the car is not burning anything and there is no need for air. If this is not released you will get like a back log of air and that puts a lot of stress on the turbos compressor wheel. It may also make the engine stumble.

For an EVO, if you have noticed there is a pipe from the blow off valve to the intake? That is called a recirculated blow off valve. Your car requires one. So when looking for a new BOV... always get one you can recirculate. These include HKS, Greddy... and a couple others i cant think of off the top of my head. You may need to by a recirculation kit with the BOV.

Default RE: question on bov

The best recirculated BOV's on the market right now are the
HKS Super Sequential (SSQ)
Greddy Type S (discontinued but still available on ebay and other places)
Greddy Type RS
Tial's widely known bov will soon be coming out with a Recirculation kit but the release date is not yet known

The bov wouln't be my first upgrade b/c the stock bov is good up to about 24psi. The first mods i'd look at would be
-Turbo Back Exhaust (TBE) which consists of:
o2 housing
Downpipe
High Flow cat or Test Pipe
and a Cat Back exhaust system.
-Intake or K&N Drop in filter
-Manual Boost Controller (MBC)
-Tune or a flash tune.
For a tune you will need a tuning device and have somebody tune the car for you OR you can get a flash tune which is basically you mail in your ECU to 1 of many companies, they will tune your ECU according to what mods you have done to the car and send it back to you tuned.
With these 4 basic things you will be looking at apx 340-370whp depending on the parts and the tune.
