2000 galant alternator removal problems

Im trying to replace the alternator in my friends 2000 galant and it's a 4cyl. I got the top bolt off but the bottom bolt the pivot I cannot get out. The bolt is off but as I take it out of the hole it hits the wheel well . Does anybody have any suggestions?
