2000 Galant DE

hey guys, i have a 00' galant DE that has about 125k miles on it. i bought it about a year ago, and since the day i bought it the oil light comes on when the rpms drop below 1k. when the rpms are above that the light goes away. it doesnt seem to effect the car in anyway. but i was just wondering if it could develop into a bigger problem. if u can help me in any way it would be greatly appreciated

perhaps your oil pump is struggling.

Try hooking up a manual oil pressure gauge and see what readings your getting. Does it knock at all?

i had a car once where the oil pressure would go nuts at idle speed. it would jump up and bottom out low. scared the crap out of me. so i sold it as a parts car lol.

no the car doesnt knock at all, its just when the rpms get low the light comes on, it starts run and drives fine

Check your oil pressure w/ a gauge at idle and see what it is.

my 01 galant es does the same thing, started about 6 months ago and my oil light blinks quickly after having driven it for a few minutes and only thereafter when i am stopped. I have no idea what it is, but I have read it could be the oil pressure gauge might be in need of replacing. Seeing how I am nothing remotely close to being a mechanic I haven't tried replacing this, but if I can convince one of my friends or someone I know to help me do it I will post my results.
