2000 Galant Fog light switch
 

Hi guys on a 2000 Galant when the fog light are on, is the switch illuminated?

Does anyone have the wiring schematic/diagram for the switch?

The switch is not illuminated when on, yet it is illuminated by interior lights when head lights are on. You should have a green fog lamp symbol on the instrument cluster. The switch itself is a wide push button. It does not stay down half way or toggle. Is just a button.

Hanes Manual has the wiring diagram on page 12-26.

The fog lamps are fused in the engine compartment relay box #2 15A

There is a fog light relay in engine compartment relay box with 5 leads.
2 red leads coming from the dedicated fuse #2.
1 wht/blk going to front ECU
Red/Grn - right fog lamp and Fog indicator on instrument panel
Pnk - left fog lamp

The switch itself has 4 leads.
Grn/wht - hot interior illumination
Blk/Yel - ground interior illumination
Lt Blu - Hot fog lamp control from ETACS ECU
BLK - Ground (however, there is another junction box the ground runs through... No indication of where...

Steps assuming you are trying to get your fog lights to work:
1. turn the key to ACC... should have control of lights.

2. If you think the switch is bad, pull the switch and us an alegator clip bridge Lt blu and blk. If the lights come on, then you need a new switch. if the lights turn on you have ruled out wiring faults, and your switch is bad.

3. If you think the relay is bad, pull the relay and bridge red with red/grn. You should have right fog lamp on and indicator light on. This relay is controlled by the ECU. If the lights turn on it does not necessarily mean the relay is bad... but it's probably cheap to replace... and you have ruled out wiring faults.

If 2 and 3 don't fix.... well you could have wiring fault, ETACS ECU problems or FRONT ECU problems. Other than useing an Ohm meter to find the fault, I can't help you...

One more note!!! The Fog lamps power down when the high beams are activated. Then they power back up when high beams are deactivated. This is controlled by one of the two ECU's... Are your high beams working properly? Use an ohm meter between fuse 6 and 7 of the engine compartment relay. With the beams off, you should have high resistance. If you have low resistance, then you may have a switch problem with the high beams or you may again have an ECU problem...

If you want to cut out ECU control of the fog lamps... Jumper lt blu on the switch with Red coming from the engine compartment relay box (power from dedicated fuse 2. and jumper black on the swithch with pnk and red/grn. The fog lamps would not turn off after the car is turned off, they will not power down when the high beams are turned on. This is a severe step... I don't really recommend it... I don't know how the ECU will react to being cut out of the loop... See 2001 a space odessy:D
