Default Part sourcing query

Hello,
Galant 1998 1997cc 4g6 16v Automatic
I am trying to source a reasonably priced Crank Position Sensor, used or new, for Galant described above. The UK Mitsi dealer price is £120 or $185 which is somewhat more than I would like to pay.
Enquiries with Breakers and Parts Suppliers are coming back with nothing.

I have found one site in US:

http://www.prostreetonline.com/oem/w...osition+Sensor

.... which has ...
1999 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 4-Cyl. Crank Position Sensor at $79.40 Part # A2255-169843

Queries:
1. Anyone know if this is same sensor that is on my Galant above? (there is a small pic that suggests the same size config)

2. Is the Galant 1998 CPS used on any other Mitsubishi models?

3. Anyone know anything about this site? (Is it reliable etc)?

4. Can anyone advise any other source for this part?

Regards,

Bastun

dude, you need to get your year model correct. 1998 and 1999 model galants are completely different. 1994 thru 1998 are same body style and engine size. 2.4L with distributor. starting in 1999 the galant was redesigned and also had a new version of the 2.4L engine that DID NOT have a distributor. 1994 thru 1998 cam sensor was inside the distributor and was not serviceable, 1999 to present, cam sensor is on cam plug on back of the head, and you can pick them up at autozone or oreillys for around 50.00 us dollars or from a mitsubishi dealer for around 80.00 us dollars. again, as i stated in your other post, model year and engine size are crucial for a diagnosis.

Thanks for info. Car designated as 1998 but in fact is 1999 model (does not have distributor). My post was concerned with CRANK sensor - not CAM (see above)

Could you advise if it is possible to replace Crank sensor by cutting wires at sensor end, bolting in and soldering to old wires? I intend to do this if it allows me to do job without removing timing belt etc.

Regards

do not cut those wires and solder them. if you take off the timming covers you can change the sensor without disturbing the belt. but one word of advice, if you havent changed the timming belt or dont know when the last time it was changed, my advice is to change that belt, and the balancer belt. timming and balance belts should be changed every 60k. if that belt breaks, your gonna spend ALOT more to fix it. soldering that connection will change the signal bieng sent to and from the PCM. the crank sensor works off of a 5 volt reference and a soldered connection will change it, if it starts, and that is a big if, the check engine light will stay on with a crank sensor code. that system is very sensitive.
