Low Engine Oil Pressure

Hello everyone, I need you guys' help..
My engine oil pressure is low in when my 2002 Galant is on low RPM (under 1600). The Oil light is on anytime I'm under 1600 RPM. If I drive and accelerate the light turns off, and the oil pressure is fine.
Is that a critical issue for my engine?? (Considering that most of the time the car is moving over 1600 RPM)..
Should I sell the car or keep it and try to avoidrunning in neutral?
Please tell me any suggestions about my problem.
Thanks!!!

RE: Low Engine Oil Pressure

Just wondering, but did you check the engine oil level?

Look at the oil pan and make sure it's not smashed upwards and into the oil pump pick up tube. If it is- either replace the pan or remove it and attempt to hammer it back into shape from the inside.

There's also the possibilty of a failed oil pressure switch giving a false reading. You can have your oil pressure read at a repair shop using an actual oil pressure gauge.

yes, agree with dsm1990gsx....you should check the engine oil level. you can check from oil stick, find it near engine.

good luck!

RE: Low Engine Oil Pressure

I did replace the Sensor, and the light was still on.. So my guy hooked a pressure gage, and it showed to have low oil pressure when the car is on low RPM. I also did an oil change to make sure I'm not low on oil.
Some people told me to sell the car as soon as possible becasue this can be fatal to the engine (or to try to replace the oil pumpcosting about $800 with labor according toa machanic i asked..).
Basically what they say is that the pump will slowly die this way and there's no way to know when..
So what do you guys think? are they just trying to rip me off, or is this acrucialproblemenough to get rid of the car asap??

Thanks!!

the car runs great by the way, no weird noises from the engine or nothing

1.Take the low oil pressure light bulb out
2.Sell it
