O2 sensors going bad
 

I replaced both O2 sensors on my 01 Galant back in December. Two days ago the engine light came on and my scanner said O2 failure on both banks. I don't want to replace them again if something is causing them to fail. Anybody ever have this problem? Or did I just get crappy 02 sensors?

What brand are the o2 sensors? What are the codes your getting?

Take the one that's giving the problem out and peck on it a few times pretty hard and put it back in. That's the only thing that's ever gone wrong with my 2003 Galant in 171,000 miles. I replaced an O2 sensor the first time the light came on and the next time the light came on which was approx. 55,000 miles ago I just removed the sensor and pecked on it several times with a large set of channel locks and put it back in and the thing has worked ever since. Don't ask me why it worked cause I don't know but it's lasted longer than the original 02 sensor did. Not very scientific but what the heck it worked and it don't cost anything to try.

ok, you said you replaced sensors on both banks?? is this a v6? or is it a 2.4 and you replaced both sensors? the v6 has 4 sensors, 2 per bank. if the sensor in question was replaced, was it a factory sensor? if it wasnt a factory sensor i would guess that it did go bad. aftermarket o2sensors are not very reliable on a mitsubishi. same with most aftermarket electrical parts for a mitsubishi. plan on replacing this sensor every few months if aftermarket. you get what you pay for!! greg.....
