i know this is a major issue with these galantsand people are tired of hearing about it but has anyone had a galant that felt likeit was stuck in nuetraland then actually tore into it themselves to fix it?? Mine is doing like everyone elses but i just dont get it. When i move the shifter into reverse or drive i hear the solenoids but there is no other noise or vibrations of anykind. It would seem like if the converter was bad it would at least make some kind of chattering noise. I have put it on jacks and it wont even slightly move the wheels. There has got to be some kind of sensor on my 99 galant somehere that could cause it to do something like this.

a lot of things could cause that, including stripped torque converter impeller splines.

Yeah that could be. Seems like there should have been a slight noise when that happened. The people i bought it from said the were driving along around 35-40 MPH going up a slight hill and thats when it acted like it was put in nuetral was how they described it. They said there were no noises at all. The only thing that happened was the motor reved up of coarse. I think im jsut going to pull it out this weekend. If the input shaft spline are stripped then i guess ill know. if that isnt the case then im wondering how to check the converter. In the past when ive seen a converter go bad in a turbo 350 tranny the converter usually has parts sloshing around inside. One other question i have is, i have called several salvage yards and they say the only tranny that will work has to come from a 99 but they can never tell me what the difference is. Does anyone in here know about that. I have found several 2000's, 01's and 02's for cheap.

take the trans out.
remove the torque converter. Look inside of it after draining it.

if the impeller splines are stripped, it needs a new or rebuilt converter. cost should be about 150 bucks for a rebuilt one.

or, it could be any of a dozen different problem.
