300 v 1000 Mile Lancer 08 Break in
 

Ok,

So first off when i received my 08' Lancer GTS it had a little over 200 miles on it, since i had it driven from NC. Now after three or so weeks, i'm a little over 1000 Miles. And let me tell you... completely disregard the manual. The difference pre-1000 miles and post-1000 miles is huge. I've noticed a lot faster accels, and the RPMs go higher smoother.

I hope this helps anyone who was wondering when it would be safe to let it rip :)

Too late I bought a manual but couldn't understand the difference with pre and post mileage. Mine is almost 6000 miles the rpm is stable on 1000 or 900

if you are thinking the engine isnoisy because it is Aluminum block.
Are you sure the guy that drove the car from NC didn't totallyrev yourcar on all gears especially 1st and 2nd gear. car manual said avoid reving it during break in period. MIVEC engine is a little noisyon idling but not really a problem it is just like that.

check your rpm again please? thanks

No, the people who drove the car down were in their 60's, Larry Jay made sure that the car wasn't going to be driven to the extreme on its first run. I have a CVT GTS, so i don't know if there is a difference between manual and CVT in turns of break in period...

And by the way, when i say "disregard the manual" i mean disregard the car's manual, which says it's safe after 300, not the manual tranny model.

An easy break in will not seat the rings correctly. The method shown in the link that Sebba posted how to correctly seat the rings. Sure, it's fine to keep the RPMs and speed low until a certain milage, but what are you really doing by using this method? It's a new car and if it breaks now, it's warranted...so, what's the worry?
I broke in my rebuilt motor with the same method and my motor runs strong. I broke in my wife's van the same way (when she wasn't looking).

Taking delivery of my GTS CVT next week fresh off the truck w/ no miles.

I will have about a 150 mile drive from the dealer to my house thru the high dessert ( some curvy mountain peaks and long straights).

If I understand correctly, i should drive hard in 2nd or 3rd gear for the first 20miles. Then make sure I moderate my speeds for the next 180 miles? Unfortuanetly i will not be able to change the oil until 130 miles or so. Is this about it or am i missing something?

Also, please define "running hard" does this mean i shoud take to redline?
