Air Intake Questions.
 

hey.

I have a 1999 CE MR Lancer and a standard air intake.
I wish to put in new one, but i am slightly confused.

Should i use a "Short Ram System" or a "Cold Air System"?
If i am correct the Cold Air is better?

Can anyone give me some tips?

A CAI is better than a RAM. Cool air is better than hot air for the motor. The air temp intake sensor, to name one within the fuel system, helps the ECU determine how much to regulate the fuel injectors.
Just be sure that the CAI doesn't go too far down or you'll have to consider a valve to keep from sucking up water into the intake. That leads me to whether you live in and drive through an area that has is known to be a flood zone or just allows water to get high enough to get sucked up by a CAI.

Well i live on the Gold Coast, Australia, it occasionally rains, vary rarely hard.

Another thing, if i have it sitting quite low, is the exhaust fumes from other cars going to cause any trouble, because i might get caught in the occasional traffic jam.

Seriously, it's more about the heat than second hand exhaust. The exhaust will cool by the time it reaches the atmosphere. Be more worried about the heat coming off the tarmac. ;) You'll be fine.

The only thing you have to worry about is the Rain and other natural disaster that you encounter in Australia.

If you install CAI. you more likely to avoid heavy rain
Todestroy some parts of your car when installing the CAI like cutting the part of the bumper or other undercarriage covers.

The SRI you just install it and you don'thave to becutting off parts on your car.

I always install Short Ram Intake and never have a problems with them on my 3 cars with SRI.

You can bUy a by pass valve and filter cover to avoid damage on your engine using CAI.

I am looking in to the K&N SRI for the 08 Lancer. Should i be worried that it is not CARB exempt with me living in California?
