heat/cooling control knob sticking

the heat /cool knob is only turning from somewhat hot to somewhat cold. I can't get A/C or full heat. I was quoted 1000 dollars to fix from the dealership but F#$& that. Is there some thing simple to correct this problem?

Im not sure how the controls work behind the dash. I know my old talon had gears behind it and when mine was doing that, it basically just stripped the gears in the back. But some of these newer cars im not sure about. Maybe take the dash off and see if you can figure out what is causing it

This is a known problem, it was a TSB for that. The mechanism gets dirt somewhere and it's hard to turn the knob. You may search on this forum, it was discussed before. My knob is brokn, just because of that. What I did for the winter season, I had my buddy moving the
"white thing on the left under the steering wheel" lol, while I was turning the knob axle (the actual knob is broken). So hope it helped, but it still needs to be fixed, I will try one day when it gets warmer :).
