Idle speed control sensor

Hello,

I have a 2006 mitsubishi lancer CS3ASTJEL model, chasis JMYSTC53A6U000993. My idle speed control sensor started failing a few weeks ago, so i bought a replacement with the following reference (MD628174). When I tried this replacement sensor, the engine rpm began to oscillate, was not stable.

Looking in forums, I saw that I had to disconnect the battery from the engine for a few hours so that it will reset the ECU, so by then connecting the battery again, and starting the engine, the ECU will start calibrating all sensors..

Do i really need to do this? is there any way i can get this to work by reprogramming the ECU? Is there any way to solve this by not going to a specialist?

Regards.

Just saw your post...whenever I replace anything dealing with electronics, sensors and such I always disconnect the battery anyway. Just pull the neg. cable and wrap a rag or something around it so it can't make any contact with metal. Reconnect it when the job is done, and it will begin to reset. Most of the time things are back to normal before too long just doing your normal driving.
