rough downshifting and slipping out of gear

I have a 2002 Lancer with 35K miles. I had it in to the dealer once before for hard shifting from 2nd to first. I felt it was the solenoid (pack) but the dealer said everything was ok. During the past year I noticed it would slip out of gear if I was coastingslowly down an incline. When I would begin to accelerate, the engine reved before goingclunking back into gear. My warantee is up this month and I plan on bringing it inthis week. Any idea as to what this problem may be?
thanks, ron

Sounds like it may need new tranny fluid. They are stalling for time on this bud, press the issue or it's going to be out of your pockets. Check the fluid yourself and tell us the color, smell, and/or if it has any shiny particles in it. After that I suspect your torque converter, then then the solenoids.

RE: rough downshifting and slipping out of gear

You can shift from 2nd to 1st at very low RPMs and as long as you're not ramming it in. You should be able to do with hardly any effort at all.....at around 1-2mhp and 1000rpms, lol.
With that said, you're right KN. 1st is used mainly for getting the car going. 2nd can be used as a low RPM/speed gear.

...but...his car has an automatic...at least that's how I interpreted it. I don't know of any manuals with a solenoid pack ;)

Well my friend sorry to say that you have to buy anAutomatic next time.

Your clutch is fried and 1st and 2nd gear are friend or totally gone.

I just wonder I always driven manuals in my life with different cars I never had any problems with the clutch.

Are you sure you're driving it right especially on those 1st and 2nd gear.
it seems you like to used them a lot.

1st gear should only go from 1-10 miles and rpm on 2500-3000
2nd gear should go all the way to 15-35 rpm on 3500
3rd gear should go all the way to 35-65 rpm on 4000
4th gear should go all the way to 65-80 rpm on 4000
5th gear should go all the way to 80-140 rpm on 4000

Never change gear more the 4500 rpm it will fry your gears.
