95 Mirage
I just purchased a 95 Mirage LS Coupe yesterday that drove fine when I test drove it but after I had it transported home it wont start. It has gas, you can hear the engine turn but its like it cant catch a spark. What should I be looking for as far as a fix?

check your plug wires

Needs a major tune up. must be 4G1 engine.
replace everything. buy a new engine if you can afford. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en...title&resnum=4 |
Replaced the distributor and it started fine. Unfortunately I overtightened the bolt and the casing broke on the distributor so I have to get another. How hard it is to adjust the timing on it?
|
you dont need to time the thing my friend it is not a carburator. Are you talking about the distributor cap? did you also replace the rotor?
|
I did replace the cap and rotor as well. I'm thinking maybe when I transferred the rotor to the new distributor it might not have been on the correct mark.

Well after a long day I figured out my mistake and got the distributor in and adjusted the idle speed. When I took it out on the road for a test drive it seemed to hesitate sometimes at take off...especially when the AC was on. Maybe I'm just used to driving the Tahoe everyday and not used to driving a 4 cylinder. I just want to try my best to make sure I dont get stranded on the road.

Did you check the spark plug too? check them and use NGK spark plug. I will replace them if I were you.
Gap them properly |
Ok well today I took the car to a shop to let them check everything out since the distributor started the car last weekend. When I drove it to the shop it seemed to hesitate a little during driving. They told me that it has a misfire on cylinder #2 and suggested I change the plug wires and plugs first and then if it didnt work to check the injector or #2. As I was driving the car home it had very little power when driving and when I got 2 miles from the house it started to smoke so I pulled over. I looked under the hood and saw some smoke coming from underneath and when I looked underneath my catylitic converter was bright red. I had it towed home and will look at it tomorrow. Could a misfire cause the car to act this way?
