Tappet Jam Nut

Hello All:

My '89 Mirage (370,000 miles) with the 1.5L engine has a valve tappet jam nut that is beginning to strip. Does anyone have a spare, or know where I can buy one?

Regards,

Rich

does it look kindof like every other M4 or M5 nut on the planet?

Haha! Yes, I get your point. But the thing is, it looks like it might be hardened. It's dark in color. So I'm not sure if I can use an off-the-shelf nut. Again, I don't have the valve cover off right now (the car is still our daily driver and has 370,000 miles on it), and so I'm not sure what size it is. I think it's a fine thread, and those are hard to find here in my little town. I was just hoping that I could find a spare, and then I wouldn't have to go into panic mode trying to find a replacement the next time I adjust the valves.

it's probably black due to be being coated in hot oil all the time. if it's not a M nut it will be a UNF,
if you have a wrecker with the top off, go have a look, or phone one interstate to send you a few.

better, find a set of tappet-rockers and replace them. (not cheap, but well worth it)
