03 Montero 4WD Solenoid????

Does anyone know where to order 03 Montero Limited 4WD Solenoid
(Part Number)? Thank you

A long time coming for your answer, but I just ordered one through mitsubishiparts.com. P/N: MR430381. It was actually called the Freewheel Clutch Valve. Approx cost online: $105, not inc. S&H.

Nice enterprise there, f-man! Hey, can I ask you what symptoms you were having that made you want to get a new solenoid? Just talked to someone on the forums who may be needing the same thing...

I was getting symptoms like in this forum, https://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=34000, with the whirling/grinding noise. My mechanic also told me about the wheel bearing TSB, but that was more expensive than replacing the solenoid. I'm supposed to get the part today and will replace it this weekend. Will update here if it solves the issue or not...

I've been having the same problem. However, I took the "check valve" off and it was not holding a vacuum, so I blew it out. It had crap in it.... Put the check valve back on and poof it fixed the problem.

Might try this before spending the bucks.
:)

Sorry for the delay. Bottom line, the fix worked (no more grinding noise). Relatively simple with only 2 bolts, 2 electrical connectors and 4 small hoses to dis/reconnect. Somewhat of an awkward angle to reach it, and the hardest part is removing the rubber hoses from the old valve; I actually snapped one of the plastic tips off, meaning I was replacing the part whether I wanted to or not!

Will post some pics here once I get them downloaded. The part is located inside the engine compartment, passenger side, between the headlight and the air filter housing.

In the end, the wife is happy ;).

I'd love to see some pics, falcaineer. Whenever you can do it.

Nice hint, cnewmantn. Always best trying the simple fix first!

You know, when I first got my beast, I thought that nest of hoses and switches had something to do with the ABS, then I was under it working on the O2 sensor and I was wondering why is there an oil filter on the front axle? Glad I didn't try to unscrew it:)

free wheel clutch solenoid...sport or standard

Hello all,

I have a 2001 full size limited Montero that needs a new free wheel clutch solenoid pack and I have seen part # MR263723 for the Sport and part # MR430381 for the full size vehicle.

Question is are these the same solenoid packs with different part numbers or is there a difference other than price? Dealer parts guy thinks they are different but I know from past experience that is not always the case. All the online pics of these solenoids are the same regardless of P/N's.

Thanks for your input!

To me the only difference I see in the 2 are the mounting brackets. So it could the the holes for mounting are different for the sport...thats just an observation and a guess as to why they are different part #'s.
