'03 Montero Sport, timing belt / interference engine?
 

Hey All-
Was wondering if the '03 Montero Sport has an interference engine or not, and also when the timing belt should be changed. It's not my car so I don't know details if there's different type of engines, but if you need more info let me know!

Yes, the 24valve is interference and the belt should be done at 100,000 miles. I just did mine so any q's fire away.

How do you know if it's a 24 valve 3.0 engine?

According to a quick search, the Canadian version is almost identical to the US version. Diesel engines were not an option, even in Canada. They continued to be sold beyond 2004 (unlike the US) and were available with the 2.4L 4G69 I4, 3.0L 6G72 V6, and 3.5L 6G74 V6, all of which are petrol. All three engines are interference engines with the 3.0 and 3.5 being 24-valve and the 2.4L being a 16-valve engine.
